Hydrogen and CCUS Systems (HCS)
Green hydrogen and CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilisation, and Storage) are fundamental to achieving not only net zero but also net positive outcomes. Without these, regenerative innovation cannot be realised. Toshiba possesses unique elemental technologies in this field, and RIC aims to demonstrate these with European partners, elevate their TRL (Technology Readiness Level), and achieve social implementation. By linking with Strategic Design, we aim to provide optimal solutions tailored to regions and industries, considering aspects such as power procurement and economic rationality.
Toshiba’s key technology areas
- Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM)
- Toshiba’s unique PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane) water electrolysis device offers high efficiency and easy output fluctuation control, significantly reducing the need for expensive iridium.
- Our new mille-feuille structure coating technology reduces iridium usage to one-tenth of conventional amounts while maintaining electrolysis efficiency.
- Toshiba is set to enter the European market with its groundbreaking and cost-effective PEM electrolysis technology.
- Efficient CO2 Capture and SAF Production
- Our advanced technology efficiently captures CO2, converts it to carbon monoxide, and in alliance with strategic partners we further produce SAF (sustainable aviation fuel).
- The strength lies in our highly efficient and rapid catalyst technology for generating carbon monoxide, achieving a reaction rate 6 million times faster than conventional manufacturing technologies.
- We will utilise this technology to study SAF production with oil companies, airlines, and plant engineering companies.
