Strategic Innovation Design (SID)
Creating social innovation in the fields of decarbonisation, circular economy, and regeneration is complex. Success in these areas requires a logical and flexible strategy that combines both qualitative and quantitative perspectives while strengthening networking with partners and customers. Additionally, methodologies and digital platforms for co-creation with a diverse range of stakeholders are essential.
Our approach is built on a foundation of:
- Operations research and integrated assessment: Models that encompass economics, social, and environmental factors.
- System dynamics and human behavioural psychology: For decision-making and regional strategy formulation.
- Data and AI: Leveraging internal and external data with artificial intelligence, we aim to create a think tank for developing innovative strategies and facilitating co-creation through participatory design. This represents to:
o Cross-disciplinary integration: Fusion of design and R&D through collaborations of designer, data scientist and software/hardware experts.
The target areas align with Toshiba’s three pillars of regenerative innovation:
1. Decarbonisation
2. Nature-positivity
3. Well-being
These encompass next generation energy grids, utilisation of distributed energy resources, water circulation, hydrogen and CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage), as well as sector coupling and multi-infrastructure solutions. In each of these fields, we actively engage in innovation design, co-creation activities, business analysis, and support for evidence-based policymaking (EBPM) in regional and corporate strategy formulation.
Furthermore, the mid-to-long-term mission is not only to drive innovation activities within Europe but also to scale Toshiba’s social contributions globally by optimally deploying successful cases.
