Sustainable Battery Systems (SBS)
Industrial battery systems are essential for electrifying transportation, managing local energy, providing backup power, and stabilising power transmission and distribution systems. While the high environmental impact, including the extensive use of rare resources, is widely recognised, solutions to efficiently achieve recycling and repurposing, as well as the use of data distribution mechanisms exemplified by EU battery regulations, are becoming more prevalent. Extending battery lifespan and enhancing safety through smarter utilisation are also essential.
Toshiba supplies SCiB secondary battery cells that use lithium titanium oxide (LTO) electrodes, known for their exceptional lifecycle, reduced environmental impact, and superior rapid charging/ discharging and operating temperature range. In addition, Toshiba intends to supply next-generation products with enhanced power density by adopting niobium titanium oxide (NTO) electrodes.
